Due to increase in membership of Barrhead Men's Shed, partly due to our East Renfrewshire Doors Open days Event last month, The Barrhead men's Shed will start opening on a Thursday Morning from 10:00 to 13:00 from Thursday 26th October 2017. So if you have thought about joining us in the Shed in Robertson Street but had previous commitments on a Monday Wednesday or Friday then come along to The Shed on a Thursday morning and have a look at what you can achieve by being a member. Remember also that The Barrhead Men's Shed is open to woman members as well as men as long as all members are resident in East Renfrewshire and fifty years old or over.

Recently Tom Arthur MSP visited The Barrhead Men's Shed and presented The Men's Shed with a Certificate of Congratulation for all the work the Shedders have achieved, and for which all members and committee are very proud to display on the Shed Tea/Coffee area. Tom has also undertaken to help the Barrhead Men's Shed in any way he or other members of The Scottish Parliament can.
The guys at Barrhead Men’s Shed absolutely nailed it when the giant intu Braehead shopping centre asked them to build planters for the entrances to the mall.
They went at it hammer and tongs to make the eight wooden planters, which are now filled with plants and flowers for shoppers to see as they make their way into the centre. Barrhead Men’s Shed is based at an industrial unit, in Robertson Street and was set up four years ago to give men - and women - over the age of 50 a place to meet and take part in creative work and recreational activities. The charity also plays a role in meeting the social, health and well-being needs of its 35 members. The shopping and leisure destination’s Community Fund had previously donated £500 to the Men’s Shed, but the centre’s management were so impressed by the standard of work being done there, they ordered the planters they needed from them. Barrhead Men’s Shed chairman, Alex Storrie said: “Most of the work we do is woodwork and carpentry and we’ve got some really skilled craftsmen who show other members how to create things from pieces of timber. “We make a lot of garden furniture and we were delighted to get the order to build the planters for intu Braehead.” Community development manager for intu Braehead, Lydia Brown said: “I was hugely impressed by the work that goes on at the Men’s Shed, in Barrhead. “When we had the idea of brightening up the centre with plants and flowers we had no hesitation in buying the planters from them.” |
